Gateshead iSkills

Digital Voice worked with a group of women from across Gateshead.

Who Took Part

Digital Voice worked with a group of women from across Gateshead who had limited opportunities to develop the skills to use IT and iPads.

The basic iSkills course has been designed by Digital Voice especially for those who need to increase their confidence with IT and media, and is an excellent way of boosting self esteem through skills development and creativity.

    What Happened

The group produced several short pieces which showcased their interviewing skills; they used photos of their families and lives to create lovely digital stories. Then they evaluated the training they’d received and its impact on their lives using media, too!

The media created was poignant and really interesting. It was a great way to show progression and the value of courses like this.

Benefits for Participants

The groups had the opportunity to develop their creativity and learn new ways of presenting themselves. The emphasis was on employability skills and the group certainly found they were more ready for the world of work and had gained the confidence to go on to do further training in future. They loved working with iPad technology, even those who at first were very reticent.

Gateshead Council’s Adult Learning Team funded the course as part of their Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities initiative.

Who Else Would Benefit From This Sort of Project

This approach is a very effective way of involving young people to develop their creativity by offering them professional tuition and support.
