Wor Walker iPad Photography Project

Young people gather together to work on a photography project using iPads.

using ipad to merge photos was a great way to show walker as it was then and it is now.

Who Took Part

Several youth organisations supported groups of young people with an interest in photography and their area to work on this innovative iPad project.

The local church initially asked the organisations to get involved to produce art work which would be displayed in the foyer of local tower blocks to brighten them and create interest in Walker’s past.

    What Happened

The young people looked at old photos of Walker, found their sites and photographed what’s there now. They then merged the photos of past and present using an iPad app with fabulous results.

The photos were exhibited in the church for local people and some are now framed and displayed permanently in Church Walk flats, as planned.

Benefits for Participants

Using iPad technology the young people felt they’d created something special they could share with their communities and gained a great deal of self esteem from the experience.

Newcastle City Council’s Arts Development Team commissioned the projects in partnership with local community groups and initiatives.

Who Else Would Benefit from this Sort of Project

This approach is a very effective way of involving young people to develop their creativity and citizenship using archive materials.
