What is Geostories?

GeoStories is the heritage work we do where members of the community work together to tell stories about their neighbourhood through creative digital media, in a variety of ways.

Guided by Digital Voice experts, we work with local people to teach them how to digitise their old photos and use them to bring their local history to life.

We often work with local school children so they learn what it was like to live there in the past, creating short films, animations or merging old and new images.

The stories bring together public and private archives to create a personal history of the local area. GeoStories can be turned into short films, an interactive map, or can even be displayed at an exhibition.

The benefits include social cohesion, wellbeing and digital skills.

There’s an array of potential projects which are often funded by Heritage Fund, Historic England or more general funders.  (In some instances, we can go for the funding or support you to)

History clubs

We often start these projects with a meeting for the whole community, then establish a regular coffee morning where people can come to share stories and images.  We involve participants in scanning images to create an archive and to curate the exhibition at the final screening and celebration event.

The photos and memories can be edited into films, animations or podcasts as seen in some examples below
