Creativity, Wellbeing and Pride: Digital Art with Rainbow Home

Exploring identity, belonging and what home means

Digital Voice worked with Rainbow Home to deliver a series of wellbeing-focused digital art sessions for LGBTQ+ people seeking sanctuary. Rainbow Home members have experienced homelessness. Led by digital artist Laura Crow, the sessions provided a calm, welcoming space where participants could explore creativity, develop digital skills and express themselves through art.

Creativity, confidence and self-expression

Participants learned digital drawing techniques and created their own individual artworks, exploring themes including what home means to them, where they feel they belong, and pride in their sexual or gender identity.

The sessions supported participants to build practical digital skills, confidence and self-esteem, while offering opportunities to meet others, share experiences and enjoy creative activity in a positive, supportive environment.

One learner reflected:

“Being part of this project has been an amazing experience… I gained valuable knowledge, learnt new digital skills, and built more confidence in myself.”

Another shared:

“I’ve developed an interest in art and it’s helped me.”

Challenging stigma through art

The resulting artworks were exhibited at Newcastle Pride 2026, giving participants a public platform to share their creativity and perspectives. The work will continue to be displayed at future events.

By placing participants’ own voices and experiences at the centre, the project challenged assumptions about homelessness and people seeking sanctuary. The project demonstrated how digital creativity can support wellbeing, develop skills and create opportunities for connection, while helping people feel seen, valued and heard.

As one participant put it:

“The project was beautiful, I learn new skills, I met new people. I am happy to be part of the project.”
