The Power of DigitalMe

DigitalMe is our award-winning programme that gives vulnerable people the opportunity to tell their stories and enact change within the services they use. Participants create a digital avatar and use it to tell their stories anonymously across a range of topics including mental health, domestic abuse and children’s experience of lockdown.

The DigitalMe we facilitated with Newcastle Gateshead CCG, Gateshead Council and Newcastle City Council recently is a great example of the power of young people’s voices when they are given an appropriate platform. Linda Hubbucks (Designated Nurse Looked After Children)  from Newcastle Gateshead CCG, talks more about their DigitalMe:

This DigitalMe has done more than raise awareness, it has had tangible and lasting impact:

“A project to better understand the health needs and barriers to accessing health services was undertaken with care experienced young people in Newcastle and Gateshead, funded by NHS England and with Digital Voice commissioned to facilitate. The video produced by the young people involved and the follow up panel event has been a springboard for further action.”

“We have secured significant funding to pilot travel passes, have enhanced and delivered training to GP's in both areas. We are working with colleagues to strengthen the offer to support mental health, exploring options for prescription costs, enhanced support for health needs 18+ and improving confidentiality statements.”

“We are indebted to those young people involved in the project and ensure they receive feedback on progress on a quarterly basis.” - Linda Hubbucks
